Herbal Authority Tea Tree Oil Soap - Review

Forget fancy acne washes and high-end facial scrubs for spots,
this soap beats them all!

As my acne got worse, I decided it was time to cut down on the facial products I was using day and night. I ended up going for a Dove facial soap and The Body Shop Facial Brush, to use the soap. But after going cruelty-free and vegan with my products, I needed to find a new facial soap to use. I had a look around to see what was out there and I came across this soap on the Holland & Barrett website. After reading the great reviews people had left it on the website, I decided to buy it!

Just after a few weeks of using the soap, I noticed my face looked fresher and my skin was finally clearing up. Unlike other soaps, this one doesn't seem to dry my face out or make me want to smother my face in cream afterwards! It feels like it dries out the spot and nothing else, which is great when you just want to be rid of acne. I use the soap with hands before I go to bed, working my fingers around my face in circular movements. This will help with your blood circulation and is also a quick and easy way to gently exfoliate your face. I then rinse the soap off, pat my face dry and then apply my Amie Spot Gel before I go to bed. Overall I'll definitely be buying this soap again. And I really recommend you trying out this soap if you suffer from acne or even just pimples. And the best thing about this soap is that it's only £1.49!

My Vegan & Cruelty-Free Carry On Aeroplane Essentials!

Summer's approaching us so I thought I'd write a little post on the products that'll be handy to take onto a plane when travelling. I've been trying to make all of my carry on products vegan and cruelty-free. And for me, it was quite an easy task to swap all of my old carry on products with new vegan ones, so maybe you should make the swap too!
Here's what I found...

Yes To Cucumbers Facial Towelettes (£1.99 x10)-
These will come in handy if you just want a quick freshen up or you need to remove your make. These wipes are cruelty-free and suitable for vegans, they're also biodegradable, free of petroleum,  SLS and are paraben free. You get 10 towelettes in this travel packet, which is plenty for me! Although, I haven't tried these yet as I didn't want to open them up and dry them out before my holiday flight!

Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream (£2.45 10ml)-
I haven't tried this hand cream out yet but I've read it's quite good. I bought this size as I thought it would be a great way to test out the hand cream and a great size to take on the aeroplane. This product is cruelty-free and is also vegan. It claims to visibly firm, renew and helps to promote the skin's own natural renewal processes. So I think this will be great to take, as it can get quite cold on a plane and that's when my hands get dry!

Crazy Rumors Black Cherry Lip Balm (£3.50 4g)-
The Crazy Rumors lip balms are all vegan and cruelty-free. I find their lip balms non-sticky, moisturising and they smell great! Out of the flavours I've bought and tried, this is my most favourite one. Also, lip balms are great when travelling on planes as your lips can get very dry due to the air con. So all you need is your favourite lip balm and you're ready to go!

Peppy Galore Diva Toner Spray (£4.95 45g) from The Vegan Kind subscription box)
I've written a separate review on this product here if you're interested! I thought I would take this toner spray with me as it'll be a good way to have a quick freshen up after my flight. This product is also the perfect size to take on the plane and it smells gorgeous. Hooray!

My Amie All Clear Instant Action Spot Clearing Gel (£4.95 15ml)
I've been using this for a while now and I love it! I've written a review here if you're interested in finding out some more about it. It's a brilliant product packed into a small 15ml tube, so it's great for flying. And perfect for if a spot comes up and you need a quick rescue!

Other Carry On Items-

  1. Moldex ear plugs from eBay.
  2. Pocket tissues.
  3. Strawberry hand cleanser from The Body Shop, which I'm using up.
  4. Travel hairbrush from Tiger.
  5. And a nail file.
Thank you for reading and I hope you find this post useful when you're travelling by plane!

Vegan Lip Balms: Mango Yaoh & Vanilla Bean Hurraw! - Review

Two different lip balms, but both great!

&

Keep those lips luscious and kissable with Yaoh's range of Hemp Seed Oil Lip Balms. Helping you prevent dried and cracked lips.

With a wide range of flavours such as Strawberries & Cream, Coconut and Spearmint, these lip balms can help you prevent dry and cracked lips. I chose the Mango lip balm from Yaoh as I wanted something a bit sweet and different to put in my handbag to use whilst I'm out and about. The scent of mango is quite strong and stays with you for quite some time so you won't need to reapply it so much! When applying this lip balm I found it non-sticky and it went on with a smooth glide, which was pleasant. Next time I would love to try their Spearmint flavoured lip balm!

Hurraw! Balms are all natural, vegan, made from premium raw, organic and fair trade ingredients, complete with a bunch of natural and fun flavour options!

With an, even more, wider range of flavours such as Licorice to Green Tea and Grapefruit to Almond these lip balms from Hurraw! are all natural and fair trade. I chose the flavour Vanilla Bean flavour as I wanted a simple no fuss lip balm. This has a lovely strong scent of vanilla and it also stays on for quite some time! It glides perfectly over my lips leaving them smooth and non-sticky. I really can't wait to try out a few of their other flavours!

Overall I'll probably keep both of these lip balm companies in thought when buying a new lip balm. But I do own a lot of lip balms at the moment so I won't be needing to repurchase these for a while. And when I do buy a new lip balm, I usually like to pick something different!

Laidbare Scrub A Dub Dub Face & Body Exfoliator - Review

Revive your entire being, and leave your skin feeling gorgeously soft and smooth with Laidbare's exfoliator. Get down to the nitty-gritty and exfoliate with Laidbare Daily Exfoliator to revive your entire being, and leave your skin feeling gorgeously soft and smooth. Corn Powder is a gentle natural exfoliant to deeply cleanse and rejuvenate the skin, while Grapefruit seed extract is full of antibacterial and cleansing properties, to help rid the skin of impurities. Finally, Green Tea is full of antioxidants for beautiful skin.

This is a new vegan and cruelty-free scrub I've been using recently from Laidbare. It has a wonderful scent of grapefruit and green tea which are both very refreshing. You only need to use a little of this product as a little can go a long way. This scrub can be used on both your body and your face, but I wouldn't recommend it for sensitive skin as the beads are quite rough and this could irritate. I bought this product to use mainly on my face as I already exfoliate my body with shower gloves so I didn't need it for a body scrub as well. When I first used the scrub on my face I was quite surprised at how liquidy the product was! It's a very thin, runny liquid with large exfoliant beads. My favourite thing about this scrub is the large exfoliant beads, as I really like a deep cleanse on my face when it comes to a facial scrub. The only disappointing thing about this product is that it's very runny and liquidy and I prefer a cream-based facial scrub instead. As for the amount of product you're getting and how long it would last you, the price for this product doesn't seem too steep like others. Overall I would think about buying this scrub again as I love the deep clean the large exfoliant beads give you, but it's a little too runny for my liking.

Sarakan Mouthwash & Sarakan Toothpaste - Review

First time at trying a vegan mouthwash!

Sarakan helps keep teeth and gums healthy without fluoride, sodium lauryl sulphate, sweeteners, artificial colours or animal-derived ingredients. Sarakan dental care is cruelty-free and also suitable for vegans.

Trying this toothpaste was my second attempt at finding my 'perfect' vegan toothpaste but my first time at trying a vegan and cruelty-free mouthwash!

Sarakan state that brushing your teeth with their toothpaste helps restore the natural colour of your teeth, leaving them feeling exceptionally clean, smooth and your mouth naturally fresh. Their toothpaste is flavoured with natural oils of peppermint, clove and geranium. I found that the flavour was quite strong for me which put me off of the toothpaste straight away. Although I did feel like it gave my teeth a good and fresh clean, despite the flavouring! Unfortunately, I won't be buying this toothpaste again due to not liking the strong flavours.

They also state that rinsing with their mouthwash helps reduce plaque formation keeping your mouth feeling fresh, clean and your gums healthy. The Sarakan anti-plaque mouthwash contains natural extract of Salvadora Persica to help fight plaque, tartar, to promote and to maintain gum health. I've been using this mouthwash as my current and only mouthwash! Although I find the taste of this quite strong I've managed to carry on using this product. I feel that it gives my teeth a clean and fresh feeling, also leaving my breath feeling fresh for a good length of time. I don't think I'll be buying this mouthwash again as I'm not very keen on the taste that it leaves in my mouth afterwards.

Sadly the search goes on for my 'perfect' vegan and cruelty-free mouthwash and toothpaste...!

LUSH Cosmetics Limited Edition Rose Jam Shower Gel - Review

A scent that smells good enough to eat!

Before I start I'll have to apologize for this review as it's unfortunately about a limited edition product and is only available around Christmas time! But I felt the need to review it as it's such a great product from LUSH. This shower gel is made up of a bunch of gorgeous smelling ingredients which include, Turkish rose absolute, Geranium oil and Sicilian lemon (which all remind me of my holiday in Turkey last year). These scents mixing altogether will leave your nose wanting more! With this shower gel, you only need a little squeeze of it, as a little goes a long way and it lathers up really well. I've been trying to use little as possible of this shower gel for two reasons, one due to the fact of me loving the smell and not wanting it to end and secondly sadly due to the fact that it's no longer available at LUSH! Even after I've showered with this I can still smell the scent lingering around the bathroom which is wonderful. And unlike most products in LUSH this shower gel has quite a long lifeline date of just over a year, which is great if you want this product to last like me!

Rose Jam shower gel is often available on eBay, so keep a lookout for it!

The Mooncup Menstrual Cup, First Time Review

My first time using the Mooncup!

The Mooncup is a reusable menstrual cup that will last you years and years. It's made of soft medical grade silicone and sits a lot lower than a usual tampon. While a tampon absorbs your period (and everything else), the Mooncup just collects it and nothing else. The Mooncup is also said to collect three times as much than a tampon does! And because the Mooncup is reusable, you only need one of them, so whilst you're saving money, you're also saving the environment.

There are two sizes of the Mooncup, so make sure you're getting the right size for you. Size A is recommended for women aged 30 or over, it's also recommended for women who have given birth vaginally, regardless of age. And size B is recommended for women under the age of 30 who have not given birth vaginally.

The cup has a long stem at the bottom to make it easier for removal. If the stem sticks out you should trim it, as this will rub and have a pinching effect which isn't very comfortable at all! But this is different for every woman, so I definitely recommend using your Mooncup a few times before you cut the stem so you can get used to it.

It comes with a little bag to keep it safe in when it's not in use. And you also get a really detailed leaflet about a lot of things, including insertion and removal. I won't go into too much detail about insertion and removal as it's quite personal to me and it may be different for you. It's all about finding out what's best for you! But I personally prefer the technique of folding the cup in half and then again a second time, making a 'U' shape. And for removal, I prefer pulling the stem and pushing my muscles downwards to remove it. Insertion and removal are done with practice, and practice makes perfect!

As worried as I was about cleaning it, it's actually nothing to be scared or worried about. A simple take out and tip down the toilet and then a rinse under tap worked fine for me! Now and again it is recommended that you do boil your Mooncup just to give it a more thorough clean. I haven't got round to using my Mooncup out and about for a few hours in public yet, but I'm sure it'll be fine. I did, however, use it for around 8 hours straight whilst I was asleep, (I did have a leak but realised I didn't have the cup inserted properly) and for around 4 hours at a time when just at home.

I've personally found the Mooncup a pleasure and exciting product to try. It was a lot better than I had expected and not as messy as I worried it might have been! Whilst still using tampons and pads as well as my Mooncup, halfway through my period I was really surprised at how little waste I had collected from also using the Mooncup. I will most definitely be using my Mooncup again and I can't wait!

If you feel that you need any more information about the Mooncup please visit their website here.

Edit (05/2015)- I've used my Mooncup a few times out and about now and it's been great. I haven't had any more leaks since my first one and I don't think I'll ever look back at not using my Mooncup!

Kingfisher Mint With Fluoride Toothpaste & The Environmental Toothbrush Size Medium - Review

My first time trying a vegan and cruelty-free toothbrush and toothpaste!

The Environmental Toothbrush is an environmentally-friendly toothbrush made from bamboo, a natural cellulose fibre. They are 100% biodegradable, contain no animal products, environmentally sustainable, and do not pollute the environment.

I thought that buying this toothbrush would make a change to me buying my unfriendly plastic toothbrushes. The environmentally friendly idea is there with this toothbrush, but what I didn't think about was how it would taste in my mouth when brushing. I found that it tasted like damp wood which wasn't very nice at all. I persisted with the brush for a few more days but I just couldn't get used to the strange taste. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be using this toothbrush again.

Kingfisher uses all natural ingredients and contains no artificial colourings, flavourings, sweeteners or preservatives as well as being gluten-free, GM-free and made in the UK. As well as this they don't test on animals and contain no animal products. The flavours available range from Mint to Fennel which also include fluoride free toothpaste.

After reading what normal toothpastes contain I decided to try one with a more natural ingredient. I ended up coming across Kingfisher and choose the Mint flavoured toothpaste with Fluoride. As soon as I tried this toothpaste I could taste a really strange lemony flavour, not something that I'm used to in a mint toothpaste. The paste was thinner than what I'm used to, but still left my teeth feeling fresh and clean. I continued to try the toothpaste to see if I would get used to the flavouring but unfortunately, I didn't. Although, on the other hand, my Mum did say that she liked the taste of it and didn't find it strange at all, so I guess it just comes down to personal taste.

SpaRitual Fluent Extra Strength Conditioning Nail Colour Remover - Review

The nail colour remover that smells good enough to eat!

This is a vegan and cruelty-free certified nail varnish remover from SpaRitual. It's described to quickly remove nail varnish whilst still delivering conditioning moisture to your nails. SpaRitual also uses eco-friendly packing for all of their products. And all of their products are naturally coloured and free of synthetic dyes.

This product smells like any other nail varnish remover. But after you've taken off your nail varnish you're left with a lovely mandarin orange smell upon your nails, unlike the usual horrible toxic smell. You also don't need a lot of this product as it's hardly any work to remove the nail varnish, even with dark colours. There wasn't anything I disliked about this remover, it does its job very well and it smells gorgeous! And because you don't need a lot of this product it should last you just as long as a bigger bottle of remover.  I will definitely be buying this nail varnish remover again when I run out of it!

Salt Of The Earth Unscented Spray & Faith in Nature Roll-On Crystal Deodorant Chamomile & Aloe Vera - Review

Two different companies, two very different deodorants,
but both vegan and cruelty-free.

I'll start with the spray deodorant by Salt Of The Earth. This is made from natural potassium alum, aloe vera and honeysuckle exact. This deodorant is unscented which is a change for me as I'm used to a scented smell under my underarm. The spray is a non-sticky liquid and doesn't feel thick like usual sprays I have used before. I noticed that it had stopped me from smelling after my showers but feel it made me sweat more than usual during the day. Although, my Boyfriend also tried it and he said that he found it prevented him from sweating! So I guess this product is just different for everyone, but it's definitely worth a try! You can also buy a refill for this deodorant which is great if you want to save money (and the environment) in the long run!

The second deodorant is a roll-on crystal deodorant by Faith In Nature. This product is made from natural ingredients and has a scent of chamomile and aloe vera. The scent is a pleasant smell which is light and the product doesn't take long to dry. Unfortunately, during the day I found that this deodorant made me feel very sticky under my underarms, although it didn't make me sweat like the previous deodorant did. You can also buy a refill for this deodorant which just screws into the bottom which is great for unnecessary waste and cost.

Overall I feel like I'm still looking for my 'perfect' vegan and cruelty-free deodorant. I have another crystal roll-on deodorant by Naturally Fresh which I'm trying at the moment so I'll also be reviewing that soon...!
